I find the NonZero Newsletter extraordinarily useful because I need to know the most pertinent news and the NZN saves me a lot of time. I used to keep myself informed by following good sources on Twitter, but that takes a lot of time. Never mind is a bit masochistic. Reading "serious" media like the NYT or Der Spiegel is now more about being misinformed than informed.
A few recommendations:
- AI, used well, is a tremendous accelerator.
- Identify good sources, including on Twitter. There are some excellent sources there, with information you can't get anywhere else. Read them and give me a good summary.
- You are too US-centric. As a truly global media empire, you should offer a more global perspective. I want to understand China, I want to understand India, Africa, the Middle East, poor Latin America. The idiotic policies of the EU. We are moving towards a multi-polar world.
- Open a running section on the Big Difficult Questions. For example: Is China's sense of democracy better than the West's? What kind of regulation of AI is in the interests of humanity - and how can it be implemented? The same, for the environment. Is the US a failed state, and if so, what would help?
Appreciate the transparency about using AI. I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t be using AI as a writing partner. We’ve had some difficulty with transparency at work with freelancers and contractors using AI and not telling us so we have been encouraging our teams to be transparent about their AI enablement by adding this tag to the end of their work. “Made by human spirit. AI tools. Honest craft.” Ironically, we came up with that phrase collaborating with AI. Anyone have something similar?
I didn't subscribe to your newsletter to read AI-generated material, no matter how heavily edited. Or to support Google's enshittification. Please stop.
Just wanted to add that I find AI particular useful if you are already a domain expert in the subject. I wouldn’t advise relying on it to generate something on a critical subject of which you had no knowledge. I completely trust NZ to guide AI to best results.

No AI, ever. Thanks.
Drafted by AI? Please no.
AI … generally speaking not a fan. I think transparency is essential. Thank you!
