My only disagreement with Bob’s thoughts here is his stated view that the hypothetical bad outcomes he outlined may be fanciful. What could more reliably ensure that AI developers will continue to cast doubts to the wind and run a race to oblivion than a conviction that if they don’t do it someone else will? What could more predictably ensure that Trump and his minions continue to rely on a campaign of deception, intimidation, and criminality than a continuing clear majority of voters opposing his presidency and MAGA? Those are the facts today, and I would bet they will continue to be over the next few years.

"It seems to me that, in rejecting any and all government oversight, the accelerationists are being either deeply cynical or bafflingly naive."

How about treason? Nothing baffling about that, if you think about it.

Bear with me here. I have never understood why media refuses to accept that if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's very likely a duck. Refuses to admit the deep influence Russia has--and by extension now, China, since Xi announced he is happily in bed with Putin--upon Trump and our oligarchs. To even consider where that leads.

More and more keeps coming out, between corrupt crypto transactions, Epstein's ties to Russian and Israeli intelligence along with clear evidence of his blackmail operations, how remarkably chummy Musk and Thiel have been with Russian oligarchs, Palantir creeping into every branch of government security systems, and Trump's famously slavish behavior when dealing with Putin.

All of it deserves not only thorough investigation but prosecution. But media just waves jazz hands saying "nothing here" or are silent as sin about the possibility.

This exposes the United States to direct attacks on our critical institutions and physical security, which could easily weaken us to the point where our worst enemies can knock us down so we can never get back up again.

Who benefits from that? No great mystery there.
